Privacy Policy
Last updated 10 October 2026 · Effective 10 October 2026
TaskCanyon is built so that your tasks are yours alone. We don't run accounts, servers, analytics or ads, so there is very little for this policy to say. It says it plainly anyway.
1. Summary
- We don't collect, store, sell or share your tasks or any personal data through the app.
- Your tasks stay on your Mac. If you turn on sync, they're also kept in your own private iCloud, which we can't access.
- No accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details or identity.
- The only personal data we may ever hold is an email you choose to send us.
| Information | Where it lives | Can we see it? |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks, lists, stars, due dates | Your Mac | No |
| The same, with sync on | Your Mac and your private iCloud database | No |
| Preferences (shortcut, sound, appearance…) | Your Mac | No |
| Reminders | Scheduled by macOS on your Mac | No |
| Payment details | Apple | No |
| Crash reports (only if you opt in with Apple) | Apple, shared with us anonymised | Anonymous technical data only |
| Emails you send us | Our mailbox | Yes, to reply to you |
2. Who we are
TaskCanyon is developed and published by Amit Raj, an independent developer (“we”, “us”, “our”). For the purposes of data-protection law, we are the controller of the limited personal data described in this policy, which in practice means emails you send us. You can reach us at [email protected].
3. What this policy covers
This policy covers the TaskCanyon app for macOS (including TaskCanyon Pro), the website at taskcanyon.app, and support by email. It doesn't cover Apple's services, such as the App Store, iCloud and macOS itself, which are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. What we don't collect
In short: nothing from inside the app.
TaskCanyon does not collect, transmit to us, or have access to:
- the content of your tasks or lists;
- your name, email address, Apple Account or any other identifier;
- your location, contacts, calendar, files, clipboard or browsing activity;
- usage analytics, telemetry, or advertising identifiers;
- device fingerprints of any kind.
The app contains no analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs, and it doesn't contact any server operated by us. Its only network activity goes to Apple: the App Store for purchases and, if you turn it on, iCloud for sync.
5. Data stored on your Mac
To work, TaskCanyon saves the following locally on your Mac, inside the app's private storage area (its sandbox container, which other apps can't read):
- Tasks: the text you type, when each task was created and completed, whether it's starred, its due date and time, and which list it belongs to.
- Lists: each list's name and colour.
- Preferences: your global shortcut, sound, appearance (glass level), launch at login, default reminder time, the list you last viewed, and whether you've seen the welcome tip.
- Sync bookkeeping (only if you use iCloud sync): technical metadata that keeps your Mac in step with iCloud, such as record change tags and a list of changes waiting to be sent.
This data never leaves your Mac unless you turn on iCloud sync. It's included in your Mac's own backups (for example Time Machine), which you control. Deleted tasks are removed straight away; the Undo option keeps a deleted task in memory for a few seconds only and never writes it anywhere.
6. iCloud sync (optional, TaskCanyon Pro)
In short: off by default; if you turn it on, your tasks go to your iCloud, not ours.
If you turn on Sync with iCloud in Preferences, TaskCanyon uses Apple's CloudKit to store a copy of your tasks and lists in your private iCloud database, so that they appear on your other Macs signed in to the same Apple Account.
- What syncs: the task and list information described in section 5 (task text, dates, star, completion, list; list names and colours). Per-Mac preferences are not synced.
- Who can access it: it's stored under your Apple Account. We, the developer, cannot see, read, export or delete data in your private database; CloudKit doesn't give developers access to it.
- Encryption: Apple encrypts iCloud data in transit and on its servers. TaskCanyon's records are standard CloudKit records, so they are protected by Apple's iCloud encryption but are not end-to-end encrypted, even if you've turned on Advanced Data Protection.
- Storage: synced data counts toward your own iCloud storage (it's very small).
- Turning it off: switching sync off stops further syncing; the copy already in iCloud stays there until you delete it. To delete it, go to System Settings → [your name] → iCloud, open the list of apps using iCloud storage (“Manage”), select TaskCanyon and delete its data.
Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's Privacy Policy and the iCloud Terms and Conditions.
7. Reminders and notifications (TaskCanyon Pro)
When you give a task a due date, TaskCanyon asks macOS for permission to show notifications, then schedules each reminder locally on your Mac through macOS's notification system. A reminder shows the task's text and due time, and is never sent to us or to any server. Whether reminders appear on screen, in Notification Center or while your Mac is locked depends on your settings in System Settings → Notifications. You can turn notifications off there at any time.
8. Purchases
TaskCanyon is free to download. TaskCanyon Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, using Apple's StoreKit. The app checks your purchase locally with Apple's StoreKit on your Mac to unlock Pro.
- We never receive your name, email, Apple Account, payment card or billing address.
- Apple gives developers aggregated sales and download reports (for example, counts by country and date). These don't identify you.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
9. Crash reports and diagnostics
TaskCanyon has no crash reporter of its own. However, if you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in macOS (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share with app developers), Apple may provide us with crash logs and aggregated usage statistics for TaskCanyon. Apple anonymises this data before sharing it, and it doesn't include your tasks. We use it only to find and fix bugs. You can turn this sharing off at any time in the same settings.
10. When you contact us
If you email us (for example, for support or to report a bug), we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to attach, such as screenshots, macOS version or a description of the problem. We use this only to reply to you, resolve the issue and improve TaskCanyon. We don't add you to any mailing list, and we don't share your email with anyone except our email provider, which stores it on our behalf.
Please don't send us sensitive information. If a screenshot shows your tasks, crop out anything private first.
11. This website
taskcanyon.app uses no cookies, no analytics, no trackers and no advertising, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts; everything is served from our own domain. The site stores nothing in your browser.
Like any website, our hosting provider automatically records standard server logs when pages are requested: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser type and referring page. These logs are used only to keep the site secure and working, aren't combined with other data, and are deleted by the host on a rolling basis. Links to the Mac App Store and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.
12. Service providers
We don't sell, rent or share personal data. The only services involved in TaskCanyon are:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Apple: App Store, StoreKit | Distribution, purchases, refunds | Handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy |
| Apple: iCloud / CloudKit | Optional sync, in your private database | Your tasks and lists, under your Apple Account |
| Apple: macOS notifications | Local reminders | Stays on your Mac |
| Apple: App Store Connect analytics | Crash reports, if you opt in | Anonymised diagnostics |
| Our email provider | Receiving and replying to support email | Emails you send us |
| Our web host | Serving taskcanyon.app | Standard server logs |
We may disclose information if required by law, for example in response to a valid legal request, but as described above we hold almost nothing to disclose.
13. Legal bases for processing
Where data-protection laws such as the EU and UK GDPR apply, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract / your request: to answer the emails you send us;
- Legitimate interests: to keep the website secure (server logs) and to fix bugs using anonymised diagnostics you've chosen to share via Apple;
- Consent: notifications are only shown after you allow them in macOS, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
14. Retention and deletion
- Data on your Mac: kept until you delete it. Delete tasks or lists in the app; uninstalling TaskCanyon and removing its container (
~/Library/Containers/com.taskcanyon.app) removes everything stored locally. - Data in your iCloud: kept until you delete it, as described in section 6.
- Support emails: kept for as long as needed to help you, and then for up to 24 months for reference, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period for security, then deleted automatically.
15. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data-protection authority. These rights come from laws including the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
Because your tasks never reach us, you exercise control over them directly in the app and in iCloud. For anything we do hold, such as emails you've sent, write to [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for exercising your rights.
California residents: we don't sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.
16. Security
Your data's main protection is that it never leaves your control: it stays in TaskCanyon's sandboxed storage on your Mac, protected by macOS, and, if you choose, in your own iCloud, protected by Apple. The website is served only over HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but by not collecting data we keep the risk to you as small as possible.
17. International transfers
Apple may store iCloud data in data centres in different countries, as described in Apple's Privacy Policy. Emails you send us are stored by our email provider, which may process them outside your country. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards provided by those providers.
18. Children
TaskCanyon is a general productivity app and isn't directed at children. It doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
19. Changes to this policy
If we change how TaskCanyon handles data, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on the App Store. We'll never start collecting data without updating this policy first.
